A free opportunity to take a trip somewhere else, all responsibilities put on hold, and that was actually hard for me to wrap my head around. Once three of my roommates and I had coped with the good fortune that had just been placed in our lap, the next ten days served as a creative incubator, harvesting our brainstorms and the development of our products.
The first four days of our excursion were spent in Asheville, NC -- Lots of hikes, lots of breweries, lots of Rosetta's.
Two of our hikes were off of the Blue Ridge Pkwy. -- a drive that everyone should take the time to experience at least once. Hike #1 was garnished by sunshine and blue skies. Hike #2 was the antithesis, coated in a damp grey. Both days provided us with the opportunity to use our eyes and capture some pretty great moments. While in Asheville, we later received the news that classes had been cancelled for the entire upcoming week, at which moment we immediately decided we were going to extend our 'evacucation' up to the mitten.
The following five days were spent between four different locations -- a cottage on Lake Huron, a cabin on the Au Sable River, and two Goodwill/Salvation Army stores -- contained one VHS camera, one mid-2000s brick of a projector, two broken hand-held tape recorders, 500+ dead flies, two dead birds, one viking funeral, one pair of waders, one fishing pole, numerous fungi to examine, one crawl space hidden in the floor, multiple wood burning fires, and enough Red Bull for an average person with a brain to not like it.
We got a lot done.
Out of it came two short films, multiple sound recordings, and lots of film photographs. Take a look below at My Eyes: 003, and stayed tuned for those short films because they may actually wind up for the public to view at some point.
